The glossary helps a little bit but I should not have to find out at the end of the book, what I wanted to know at the beginning.
Packard does overglorify his involvement in political affairs. One thing led to another, and an extremely violent and brutal war broke out in 1675.
The outcome of this war was that the colonists, who formerly were completely independent of the English Crown, now had to pay taxes to the Crown in return for the Crown's protection against future Indian attacks. I am using this book for my engineering class right now, and it's pretty helpful.. It does contain some good information, but most of the book is pap. LOVE!. After a rocky start, the book hits its stride in chapters leading to Rachel Carlson to then masterfully describe how extreme views about DDT and other technologies came to be. A more appropriate title would have been “Memorizing Brainless Advertising Slogans and Playing Dumb Games With My Sister in Baltimore”.
