Bruce developed his interest and vocation in Entrepreneurship from his father, the late Richard H. Buskirk, who for many years directed the Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Southern California. He has authored three textbooks, Retailing, and Selling with McGraw Hill Book Co. (both co-authored with his father), and Readings and Cases in Direct Marketing with the National Textbook Company.
